Funds Suffixed with Rs 1
It is a maiden attempt to create a story/blog in our shade forum space :)
Not much analyzed, i thought this would deserve.
Often we transfer funds for various causes. Be it our own expenses or some one else for a donation.
Right from the beginning, our ancestors have a common custom to have the funds suffixed with Rs 1. That is Rs 21/-, Rs 51/-, Rs 101/-, Rs 501/-, Rs 1001/- etc based on the function and the necessity. Most of us would have encountered during our birthdays, wedding anniversary etc., like auspicious events and occasions :)
It was all because of the belief that the amount given with Rs 1 will grow bigger and better :). Hence the custom and all/most of us would have got used. I have been accustomed to this custom for almost all of my deeds except a few.
One such is the contribution to SHaDE and other similar NGO's and causes which I had been donating for few years. Though I am very well aware of this fact and had been used to for all others, somehow this contribution/donation was of an exception!
There was a moment to get it corrected ! :) Yes, during my interaction with my colleague/friend Mr Kumaragurubaran D, who was my reportee in Cognizant, had always been giving his part suffixed with Rs 1. It was Rs 101/-, Rs 201/-, Rs 501/-. When asked, he said the same explanation :) You can check his contribution history here : SG0417 Tx Details
Initially I did not have a thought to change myself to this. However, as months passed by, my thought process had been improved and the moment I realized of the time, I got it changed from July 2011 :)
Hence, I would request all the existing members to think of increasing the regular contributions to Rs 1 and ensure that it is suffixed with Rs 1. If it is Rs 150, you can make it to Rs 151/-. We can make this as a standard practice for any kinda contribution we make. Even within shade, we have now types/kinds of contributions. One is for regular SHaDE contribution and another is a new venture we have started just now (in Aug 2011) - SSS. People whoever had registered a standing instruction (SI) with your bank, can think of cancelling the existing one and start a new SI with the changed amount.
Try to do it at your convenience! :)
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and support with best wishes :)
